Last week on November 2, was the launch of our Christmas Anthology, A Cowboy This Christmas. It was the best day ever.
The first thing that made it special for me was four weeks before, the day that I received my author copies of the Anthology. The book is beautiful, if I do say so myself. The cover is perfect, the formatting was great. Everyone who saw our book commented on the layout.
I lifted the books out of the boxes and suddenly it was all real. The fun part of writing, for me, is the first draft. But after that comes the hard work, rounds of revisions. Then we hopefully send the book off to our first reader for feedback. Then more revisions. Then off to a content editor for review. Then more revisions. Then off to a copy editor for review. And still more revisions.
The final copy of each of the nine writers was sent for formatting. And then, believe it or not, more revisions.
To hold the finished book in my hands was the reward for all that effort. I thought it couldn’t get any better than that.
But it did get better.
This happened the day before our launch. Our book page on Amazon had a banner that read: #2 Most Gifted in Romances Collections and Anthologies. Perfect – these are Christmas stories. How cool that people are giving them as presents.
The launch day was a busy day for me. I was out running errands when I got a call from my brother. He had read my story and really liked it. That alone made it a special day.
By the time I got home, our anthology was climbing in the Amazon rankings. My fellow authors exchanged messages following the progress of our anthology.
By 7:30 that evening, we were the #1 bestseller on Amazon in Christmas Holiday Romance e-books. I can’t tell you how exciting that was. It was something we hoped for but never expected. Best day ever!
This week has been the lull after the excitement of the launch. We achieved such a big goal and now it’s time to think about what comes next.
I wonder what that will be. One thing is certain. Christmas is coming!
